The Young Enterprise company ‘Off Shore’ from Belfast High has been named Young Enterprise Company of the Year. The students finished off an exciting year exploring entrepreneurship and developing their business skills with the top award of the year.
Winning over the judging panel with their unique bespoke products, ‘Offshore’ aim to combat our climate crisis in a unique and innovative way by using seaglass to create beautiful frames and jewellery, reminding us of the beauty of our shores and helping preserve our environment.
‘Social Innovation‘
‘Off Shore’ from Belfast High, one of 8 finalists out of almost 100 company competitors from across NI, will now go on to represent Northern Ireland at the National Finals in the UK this June.
“Although all 8 finalists created very different company concepts, the common theme to all was Social Innovation, highlighting how important social problems are to our young people and their desire to tackle those challenges. We have always encouraged our company programme students to think about how their business can ‘do good’ for society, whether that be in relation to education, community development or health. This year in particular highlights the issues our young people really care about. The challenges facing the world today are fast-moving and we need our next generation to be social innovators”
