Lisburn students challenge for UK business title

A group of young entrepreneurs from Friends’ School, Lisburn, are flying to London as they represent Northern Ireland at the Young Enterprise Company of the Year Awards on Thursday 2nd July.

The students have worked with the Young Enterprise charity in Northern Ireland to develop their business skills as they started and grew their own business over the course of the past nine months.

Having been awarded the Northern Ireland Company of the Year title at a glittering event staged at Belfast City Hall in May the local teens are now set to take on the national competition from 12 student companies across England, Scotland, Wales and Gibraltar.

Managing Director, Jake Lewis, spoke about the aim of the business: “ActiKids was formed in October 2014.  We’re a team of 10 enthusiastic young entrepreneurs who have worked cohesively with each other and taken on new challenges.  Our product is a children’s activity journal that aims to teach children all about the world around them in a fun and creative way.

“We are incredibly thankful to have received some fantastic coaching from the best in the business in recent weeks from Crescent Capital and The Lyric Theatre and of course, all the help and support from Young Enterprise Northern Ireland and our volunteer business advisers.

“We are hugely proud to be representing Northern Ireland and Friends’ School, Lisburn in this prestigious competition and without their support none of this would have been possible.”
